A glance of the Japanese craft beer market
Despite Japan being a difficult year for Japanese beer companies, the Craft beer sector shows how the trend for a different beer taste is starting to show some interest from regular beer drinkers looking for new taste and beer styles.
With just a little bit over 300 microbreweries in Japan the market is still small, and most of those microbreweries are dependant of restaurant chains, hotels and mainly linked to Sake breweries so the focus on making this product their prime interest is still very low.
Recently a studio research a steady growth year on year.
Figures below show 2018 growth of Japan’s top 3 microbreweries
- Echigo Beer (0.9%),
- Hitachino Nest (0.4%),
- Baeren Beer (6.4%)
Some of the bigger beer breweries in Japan have been recently showing some interest in this market trend and start releasing different beer styles and introduce new hops into their kettles.
